This page is about the amateur and sim racing driver JayCoops.

First Interest

JayCoops first interest in motorsport came when he was just 4 years old. He would watch the 1989 Brazilian Grand Prix recorded on a VHS tape as many times as he could in a day. His father was a well known Autograss racing driver and Jay would go to every race meeting on a Sunday to watch his father race. When a race meeting wasn't on, Jay would use Lego bricks to simulate a 1/4 mile oval and race his matchbox cars around them.

Motorsport Experience

JayCoops started karting at amateur level at a very early age. thanks to his close family friends owning a karting business Jay would often go down and help out in any way possible just to be around the karts and race them. When he turned 12 he then started to race Mini's in the Juniour class of National Autograss. In 1998 JayCoops went to the Junior National Championship Finals and progressed to the final of the event beating now BTCC driver Tom Boardman in the process. JayCoops finished the race second only to be promoted to National Champion when the first placed driver was disqualified due to failing the post scrutineering. This was short lived as when Jay's car was scrutineered there was a manufactured error from Mini that the wrong cam shaft had been put in the car, resulting in a very slightly higher valve lift than legalally allowed. Much to his displeasure JayCoops was disqualified.

In 1999 JayCoops returned to the Junior National Championship Finals with a point to prove after the previous years disappointment. The favourite for the title this year was Tom Boardman but Jay was considered a serious threat amongst the top young drivers. Jay progressed through to the quarter finals for this year and one of his opponents in the race was Tom Boardman. The start of the race saw Boardman take the lead and stay there to win the race to progress through to the semi final. Jay was in fourth and was in a very comfortable qualifying position to progress to the semi's, however Jay decided to not give up on third place and went for a move on the inside. Only to have the door closed on him and contact was made between himself and the third placed driver. The result of this was Jay's car ended up with a box full of neutrals with no drive in the car resulting in retirement.

In 2000 Jay then moved into the adult classes and decided to compete in the very popular and extremely competitive open wheel Class 8's. Qualifying for the Nationals Finals in his first year showed he had potential. Although racing well he failed to make the final. Jay did however come runner up in the South of England Championships later that year. The club he raced for since he was 12 closed down early 2001. Not giving up there JayCoops moved from 1/4 mile dirt ovals to 1/4 mile concrete ovals using the same single seater Class 8 at special events at Angmering raceway up against National Hotrods and other single seater Autograss cars from the same club as him who all shared the same passion to continue their addiction of racing.

Virtual Experience

Jay's first real virtual experience was Microprose's very popular Grand Prix. His father had then bought him Grand Prix 2 and a Formula One style steering wheel to use on the pc. From then on Jay was completely hooked on computer games that involved motorsport, most of all Formula One. He would spend all his time either racing on titles such as Grand Prix 2, Grand Prix 3, and Toca Touring Car Championship. He would play on the very under rated Grand Prix Manager, both 1 and 2. When not on the pc he would race on the playstation on all Formula One title games. He now plays on titles such as rFactor on the pc, and many racing titles on the Xbox 360.

Virtual Career

JayCoops started his virtual career with Really Rubbish Racing as a reserve driver for Feta Motorsport, replacing OpenedAutumn for the F1-1-F12011 Italian Grand Prix. Getting a points finish in his first race and with Feta Motorsports team principal Tomcheesey being impressed with his performance, Jay was given the second driver seat at Feta Motorsport for the rest of the season. A good run of results came along for the remainder of the season with consistant points finishes with the exception of the Brititsh Grand Prix at Silverstone where he had a season worst result of 11th. JayCoops has comitted himself to Feta Motorsport for next seasons F1-2-Asia Championship. The team are also looking at entering the HGTM Championship with Jay listed as one of their drivers. Jay has also formed up his own team, Team Cooper Racing participating in the MEMES Championship and special events.

F1 Seasons

Jay is now setting into his second full season in the RRR F1 Championship. He started off mid season in the first RRR F1 Championship for Feta Motorsport. Stringing together a few good results for that half of the season, he was retained by Feta for the F1 Asian Series. Although missing nearly half of the season. Jay managed to finish in the points for every race he entered, three of which were podiums. Jay had very nearly on two occasions won his first F1 race. Eventually he finished 5th overall in the championship, and helped earn Feta Motorsport 5th in the Teams Championship. For season 3 F1 Summer Series, Jay still remains at Feta Motorsport with high hopes to do well.

HGTM

The HGTM (Hyper Global Tourenwagen Masters) Championship was quite a disappointing season for Jay. Firstly starting with Feta Motorsport he had a promising start to the season at Nurburgring with an 8th and 9th place finish in its races. A few race events later, Feta had pulled out of the HGTM and was replaced by Wop&Limey Racing for the remainder of the season. It was with Wop&Limey Jay got his season best finish in the championship with a 6th place at Sebring. He finished 14th overall in the championship and 2nd in the Rookie Championship, after missing a few events and clawing back as many points as possible to become rookie champion, he just fell short 6 points behind the rookie champion Icthyes.

MEMEs

The Mid Engined Mid Eighties Series is still on-going, Jay has shown he can be up there and fight at the front with the main championship contenders. Although he has yet to finish on the podium this season, Jay has been close on a number of occasions with the seasons cars being so closely matched, meaning he is missing out of a podium only by a few seconds at the most.

Special Events

Jays first special event with the club was the Merry Crashmas event with Feta Motorsport. The Demolition Derby themed event saw Jay put in some good results eventually finishing 5th overall.

The Sunset GP was the F1 special event before the F1 Asia Series kicked off. It was set in Abu Dhabi and was a full 100% F1 race. Jay had a rather eventful race but showed great pace and had it not been for a few incidents during the race, he would have finished higher than where he had in 8th.

The HGTM Nordschleife 90 was the HGTM's special event held that the demanding Nordschleife circuit at the Nurburgring. Jay had made an error before the event had started by forgetting to load his car set-up for the race, preventing him from maybe getting a better result than the 13th he had.

The Radically Rubbish Cup was Team Cooper Racing's first special event and turned out to a rather disappointing one. Having a decent result in the first race in Laguna Seca, the results slowly started to drop with an overall position of 11th.

The The Inaugural Cruddy 125 was a replicated Indy 500 race held at the great Brickyard itself Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Jay had entered the event with his own Team Cooper Racing in the Acura ARX-02a. Jay managed to get Pre Qualifying Pole, Pole Position for the race, and eventually record his first RRR victory winning the event after a long, hard battle with POWA's Ajokay.

Personal Life

JayCoops now has little time to race in the real world after being a member of her majesty's Armed Forces. He was selected to go to the British Army Rally Team selection trials but unfortunately was unable to attend due to a career course getting in the way. His racing priorities have now changed from himself to his son Dylan, who has shown just as much interest in motorsport as Jay did at the age of six. Dylan starts karting in 2012. Jay moves around where the Army tell him every few years.
